Michelle E. Maxedon
Genetic Counselor
As a genetic counselor at Perinatal Associates of New Mexico I can educate and provide support to families during pregnancy that may be at increased risk for genetic disorders. I enjoy meeting families because they all have a unique story to tell, which allows me to help customize their care in pregnancy.
I also help care for bereaved families through a local support group called New Mexico Share. This organization supports families who are grieving the loss of a pregnancy at any stage, including miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. Fell free to contact our office for additional information regarding this resource.
My mother’s search for her birth mother inspired my interest in genetics. I was then fortunate to learn about genetic counseling while attending the University of New Mexico, which motivated me to reach out to genetic counselors in the Albuquerque area. The team at Perinatal Associates encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming a genetic counselor. After two years in graduate school at Arcadia University, located just outside of Philadelphia, I was over the moon about coming back home to become a member of this fabulous team!
